Inside the 2026 Team Meeting Retreat: AI, Universal Studios, and the Future of Search
What happens when a team of digital marketers, analytics nerds, and content strategists trades their usual desks for a week in Orlando? You get the 2026 Team Meeting Retreat—a six-day marathon of heavy-hitting strategy, hands-on breakouts, and just enough theme park adrenaline to keep everyone on their toes.
Here is a look behind the scenes at how we spent our week balancing the wild west of AI-driven search with real-world team building.
Sunday: Touched Down & Settle In
After landing at Orlando and making a quick run to the house, we kicked off the week the only way you should on a Sunday night: pizza by the pool. Travel days can be draining, so getting everyone together early for a low-key evening gave us the perfect chance to catch up and recharge before diving into the deep end.
Monday: Rewriting the SEO & AI Playbook
Bright and early Monday morning, we got straight to work. The core theme of the day? Many claim the traditional search playbook is officially dead, so we need smarter ways to measure success and stay relevant to produce leads for our clients.
AI vs. SEO: JP kicked off our first session, breaking down why AI search demands an entirely new metrics framework.
Quality Control: Ruka took the floor to tackle Google’s AI perception—specifically, whether algorithm agents actually view our content as helpful.
Analytics Deep Dive: Evan rounded out the morning with a masterclass on navigating Google Analytics 4 without losing your mind.
SEO Strategy: Ruka led a deep dive on social media’s impact on consumer behavior, Kimilee broke down how to turn location presence into actual performance, and Evan showed us how to talk about SEO data with absolute confidence.
Tuesday: Taming the Rollercoasters
You can’t go to Orlando without a little recreation. Tuesday was completely cleared for a team trip to Universal Studios.
We traded algorithms for rollercoasters, spent the day exploring the parks, and wrapped it all up with a massive group dinner at BigFire. Nothing builds team trust quite like convincing your coworkers to ride a 70-mph coaster before dinner.
Wednesday: Content Cleanups & The "Firing Squad"
Wednesday’s agenda was all about content strategy and honest feedback.
Andy opened the morning looking at how Google treats AI-generated text, followed by JP’s strategy session on practical AI implementation. Troy walked us through finding and fixing SEO deadweight through ruthless content cleanups, and Kimilee dropped wisdom on how brands can win even when they lose the coveted #1 organic spot.
The afternoon took a turn toward team dynamics. After performance reviews, we dove into a session cryptically named the "Firing Squad!!!"—a rapid-fire feedback for the team to provide feedback and suggestions to the senior leadership team where no criticisms or feedback were off-limits.
Thursday: BigQuery, Genius Types, and Teppanyaki
Our final full day of programming focused on operational frameworks and technical data.
Working Genius: We kicked off by analyzing the "6 Types of Working Genius" framework to figure out how our specific personality types can collaborate more effectively.
BigQuery Power: JP demystified the real value of pulling Google Search Console data directly into BigQuery for enterprise-level insights.
Intent > Keywords: Ruka gave our final talk on shifting focus from old-school keywords toward conversational intent.
We wrapped up the professional side of the retreat a bit early on Thursday, heading out to Kobe for a farewell teppanyaki dinner to celebrate everything we tackled throughout the week.
Friday: Heading Home
After one last team breakfast and a swift pack-up, we checked out Friday morning.
Looking back, the 2026 retreat hit the exact balance we needed. Navigating the future of search, generative AI, and modern marketing takes serious coordination, but having a week to align our strategy—and laugh together in person—sets us up for an incredible year ahead.
